Unhappy Stang has the Shakes. Help!

Ok so 2 days ago I drove to work and when I was going to reverse into parking space my car started to shake like a vibration shake but its pretty strong. I checked the engine and could not find any obvious problems, the engine is working fine, no check engine light and the tranny also seems fine when shifting. Its hard to describe the shake but its similar to when you are at a stop and try to accel in 3rd or 4th gear. It seems to shake most when stopped but its also felt when driving just not as strong as when stopped. Buddy at work said he thinks it might be the motor mounts but how do you check if it is that? One thing I should mention is that I noticed power steering seems to be leaking a little. Not much few drops every couple days could this have anything to do with it? Any ideas?

Could be the motor mounts, however they would not cause the shaking; just transmit more of it to the chassis. My first thought is a glazed/worn friction disk. They often act up first in reverse as it is the lowest ratio gear...

Any way to rule one or the other out?

I was going to order the motor mounts from american muscle and a friends mechanic said he would charge me 80 bucks to replace but I want to make sure its the mounts.

It is impossible to call the engine mounts or clutch as good or bad via a forum post, ask your friend's mechanic to drive the car and get his opinion.

FWIW I have driven a number of new-edge Mustangs with 135k (mine) to nearly 200k miles, none of which had bad motor mounts. They typically only go bad in cars that have been raced hard and often.

OTH the clutch, at 123k miles and depending on the car's history, could be the original unit and be a bit past its time to be replaced...
