Default Coolant leak 98 GT 4.6

Losing engine coolant from what appears the rear passenger side of the engine-at intake manifold. Can see a little coolant on the intake but more is dripping from underneath. Does the intake seal a water jacket at the rear of the intake? Suggestions?

thanks

The intake gaskets most certainly seal a water jacket at the back left of the engine and front right. On the older PI engines the intake manifold itself would crack back there and you would need to replace the whole thing.

You're going to need to do a little more poking around to find the source of the leak so you don't replace the wrong piece. I suggest renting a cooling system pressure tester to pressurize the system so you can look for the leak and listen for the hiss of escaping coolant.

Stevo86,

thanks for the input. It's in the shop now for a pressure test & quote from there. the intake was replaced a few years ago due to cracking at the tstat, with the upgrade intake. Hopefully it is not cracked at the water nipple pass rear & can just take a new gasket set.

Rent a cooling system tester from your local parts store and pressurize the system....the leak will show (if it is external).
