Default electric fan question

Ever since I had bought this car I have never noticed this until the other day, but my fan never comes on. I've drove it, and let it sit when hot and idling and its not on. The car isn't overheating I don't think. It's within the normal range, and the needle is probably like a little less than halfway once it warms up all the way, and its never gotten past that point the 3 weeks I've owned the car.

So my question is when do these fans kick in? and how to test it to see if it works?

thanks

Well I just read on one thread that the fan should come on when you start the car, and have defrost on. so I did and the fan was on.

When you turn the defroster on this will also turn on your A/C compressor (above 45 degrees or so) to aid in de-humidifying the air going to the windshield. This causes the cooling fan to run.

I just replaced my heater core and had my car idling until the thermostat opened and the fan came on. I was reading right at 200 degrees at the thermostat housing (below the stat) when the fan came on, I used an infrared laser thermometer. My coolant temperature gage never went much passed the center.

Not 100 percent sure but if it climbed up over 200 the fan should come on low speed shortly there after regardless

Exactly, mine came on at 201 degrees and shut off at 186. I measured the temperatures several times.
