Removing rust and painting undercarriage/suspension parts
My 01 Mustang has some areas of surface rust. Most of these areas are what I would call fairly common rusting locations (rear end housing, control arms, weld joints, misc nuts and bolts, etc.). The metal is still solid in these areas, so I'm not worried about any structural damage.
In the fall when I plan to do some suspension work, I plan to take many of these components off and wire wheel them to get rid of the rust. My question is, what are some of the paint types that you guys have used for a job like this? I've seen POR15 thrown around in various forums. While I'm not against using that, I'd like to get some more cost effective options. While at Harbor Freight the other day I saw they had some "Suspension Parts" Paint. Since these parts are under the car and will never be seen, I'm not going to spend extra money on making something look great, when I just need it to look good.
If it makes any difference, this car is not my DD. It should only see about 5k miles per year (if that), and it will never see snow and hopefully never see rain. Most of my driving is going to work on nice Fridays and on the weekend when my wife wants to take it out.
Thanks in advance!
