Default Looking for direction on a project.

Hi MF, recently my girlfriends father got a wild idea and bought a 1996 Mustang GT 4.6L and he wants me to pull the engine and do a performance rebuild. Stroker kit, bored, head and cams. possibly turbo or supercharger depending on price. He said he'd like 450-500 hp but i don't know how easy that will be with this engine. He's got a budget of 4k up to 5k if i need more.
I think I'm going to get a set of heads from trick flow, but other than that I don't know what parts/brands to look at. And do I need to worry about PI and non PI engine if Im getting new heads?
I appreciate any help and advice given. Hoping this becomes a fun project with least amount of headache invovled

Find a 4V 4.6L and do the modifications, the 2V won't hold without a complete top to bottom rebuild.

It's gonna be tough on that budget. Getting any real power N/A, while I won't say impossible I would say it's not cost effective.

With that money, find some used PI heads and get a matching intake manifold and then piece together a centri blower kit. 9 psi or so with a heat exchanger and the car will put down 400rwhp. Any more than that and you're looking at a forged bottom end.

Since you're on a budget this is the best way to go ^^^. Anything over 425 you'll need to get a forged short block. I would recommend doing the 1500 Supercharger build.
