hello...i bought a tuner from a shop that installed 4.10s for me. he also installed a nice tune at that time. i just had an h pipe installed. so i plugged in the tuner to choose 'no cats' on the tune. when i plug the unit in, it says: crank the engine for 2-3 seconds, but dont start the engine..whaaaat!? i've never seen that message and the unit does not recognize my car..what can i do??

It shouldn't ask you to crank the engine. The general instruction is to turn the key to the On/Run position for 2-3 seconds and then return to Off as the device prompts.

If you are unsure of device operation I would suggest you take the car and the device back to the shop that sold it to you and have them run you through the procedure. Doing the wrong thing at the wrong time, like starting or attempting to start the car, interrupting the tuning process etc can cause a lot of problems that could be a little costly to get straightened back out.

Ok. Took another look. It does say hold the start switch for 2_3 seconds. But don't start the engine. Wtf?

Yeah, so just turn the switch to the On/Run position. And then back to Off when prompted. Do not try to crank the engine.

I have never had that message on my tuner x3 anyhow if you push the gas peddle to the floor and hold it there then crank the engine the ECU will override i'm not sure which system fuel injectors or the ignition coils and the engine will not start

Just keep your life simple. Don't crank the engine, just turn the key to On/Run as prompted and then back to Off as prompted.

Look up some Youtube vids, watch other people do it. Or as I suggested, go back to the shop and have them show you. Using a handheld tuning device is for the most part fairly simple, but I strongly advise anybody who is unsure of what they are doing to get proper instruction first. You can really fk things up if something goes wrong.
