Default Town car w/ 4.6L probs...

92 Lincoln Town Car w/ 4.6L

First, what tranny is that??? Is it the 4R70W???

Second. I just did an oil change on it(89K). It was a bit low and looked like rust in it. There was a rust colored powdery film on the top of the oil that swirled around. I am thinking that there is a coolant leak in that is getting in the oil. What do you think??? I replaced the oil and am going to keep an eye on it for now and change at 1500 mi. to see how it is doing.

I am also going to do a compression test and maybe a radiator pressure test too. I am thinking that a head gasket is going. I guess the compression test will tell me that. At that time, I will look at the plugs too to what their condition is.

Any other ideas???

EDIT: btw, this is a first generation 4.6L. It has heads that are crappier than the nonPIs hahahhahaa. anyone thinkin PI swap for it hahahha???

my jeep cherokee had a thin rust film in the oil, turned out my head gasket had cracked and some water was getting in there.
on the pi swap, a friend of my is installing a 4.6 out of a 92 town car in a 1940 ish ford coupe, the engine is in the frame but the body is still being worked on. after its running he wants to swap in pi heads too.

I have ported nonPIs on my GT now so if I swap to the Trickflows eventually, I will put them on the Towncar if it is still around.

On a more serious note, was the Jeep okay after swapping gaskets???

yup it was all good after the gasket swap. so far 8k after the job including a cross country trip in the jeep. what was also nice the the whole head gasket set with new valve seal and everything was under $50. compared to the gasket set for our 4.6s its almost free.
