18Inch Rims/Drag Radials Lowest Tire PSi?
I have a pair of 18x10 inch saleen replicas and some 285/30R18 Hoosier Drag Radials. (Pretty much slicks with two lines down the middle). The track I race at isn't prepped worth a damn so it spins still.
My question is whats the lowest tire pressure I can run and not ruin my rims? I've heard 22psi with 18 inch wheels? Or can I go lower?
Thanks

You are gonna have trouble getting a 30 series tire to hook up no matter what you do
Such a tire is not great for the launch-pad, even though they are Hoosiers. BTW... are you SURE these are DR's and not track tires???? A 30 series tire is really not very tollerant of lower pressures and cannot see them as good for the 1/4 at all.
I recommend you get a pair of 15" wheels with a set of some DR's sportin' a 60 series sidewall for some of the mad hookup, yo

jazzer is right. If you didn't want to go with 15" go with 285/40/18 size tire it would be a big difference from what you have in terms of side wall and you don't have to swap your tires from street to track.

Yea i know the only reason Im running drag tires or track tires on my 18 inch saleens is cause I got them from a friend of mine for $75 when he sold his stang. They only had 2 passes on them. The track I race at is less than 1/8 mile and is horrible so even with some 315/60R15s people cant hook up. Its a oval track that people street drag the 290 foot straightaway. lame I know but its all we have other than the street. We can still do burnouts before the tree but the launches arn't very hard so im thinking 22 psi shouldnt hurt the rims. If it was a real 1/4 or 1/8 mile track with a burnout box and Real hard launch with a prepped surface then id totally get the appropriate tires/ wheels.
So I guess Ill have to try 22 psi and hope it doesnt bend or break the rim.
BTW will 15 inch wheels fit on 2002 Gt stock rear brakes???
Thanks

How the heck does your car even look right with 285 30 18's?! Thats ridiculous!!! My 295 30 18's were short as hell i cant even imagine 285 30 18's!!! I wouldnt have bought them to put on the car. I would have sold them and bought real tires. My buddy launches his 305 35 18 Nitto DR's at like 15psi. You'll be fine to drop them lower. But you really need to get those tires off there. They are not gonna do good for you at all.

Thanks Darkshadow for the info. Ima try 20psi and see what happens.
And teej281 Ive already used them on the street and they look fine and work great. No difference in side wall looking at the front and back tires. Hella lot better than my sh*t NT555's which were 285/35R18s. Im now running BFG 265/35R18s on the front and the profile is near identical. Why would I take them off my car when they hook really good on the street????
