Is swapping to an IRS worth it?
#31
Well I just heard from the guy wanting to do the swap and it is just that. Looks like no money wanted, just wanting to do the swap. Now here is his information on his IRS compared to my SA. He wants to do more drag racing and does not want to worry about distroying the axel/halfshafts. Good move or not?
His:
2003 Cobra
95,000 miles
3.55 stock gears
Eibach springs
IRS brace
Magnaflow catback
Mine
2003 GT
49,000 miles
3.73 FRPP gears
H&R SS springs
Bilstein shocks (new)
Brakes (new)
Edelbrock catback

I would do it. Who will be doing the actual work?
A straight swap is a good deal. Is his current exhaust acceptable to you? If not, you may find yourself swapping out mufflers later. I still wouldn't consider that a deal breaker for a straight swap.

This will be a straight swap.If it goes down we will be swapping exhaust from the cat back so that should be fine. He is also throwing in a set of cross drilled rotors for the back. Apparently he has done this before and will be doing the work with my help of course. The only thing i have heard is that the axle length is a bit different so my tires may rub since they are 315's. We are going to meet up this weekend to check each others cars out. Still a little hesitant only due to the fact I don't want to hassle with issues around the half shafts.

It's cool man, just did not understand the comment. So yes no cash will trade hands as far as I am aware. Bushing would be a good idea. anything else I need to concern myself with? Shocks, springs.....???

Well after a long internal struggle and some long reading on other forums about doing an IRS swap I have decided against it. Even though it was going to be a stright swap. The amount of issues related to wheel hop and what it takes to get it under control far outweighed the benefits. I plan on doing a build in the near future and increasing my power so I thought it would be best to keep the SA. Plus I can still build the SA to out perform the IRS with way less money. So if anyone is here locally and wants to do a straight swap let me know and I will get you in touch with this guy. He is ready right now to do it.
