New member with a question
Hi I'm new to mustangs but not cars in general and I had a question. I have a 2001 GT 5spd and I love the car. I've had a 99 C5 and a handful of other cars/diesel trucks etc. I'm wanting to add more power to the car and I've done quote a bit of searching on the topic. I've noticed the car has a very short first gear. I would like to be able to take this car to the track and if I supercharged it or mildy build it with bolt on stuff I think the car is being held back by its gear ratios. I've researched a t56 swap and there are some good things out there, but if I was to supercharge the car would I be better with a t56 swap or possibly lowering the diff gear ratio, or do I change the ratios of the 3650? I want to be able to get to 55-60 in first gear and with 400+ horse it should be able to do that with ease with the right ratio. Or for the 3K for the t56 kit do I purchase a used cobra drivetrain and swap and get the t56 to boot, sell my old motor to cover the difference. There is a 03 cobra complete drivetrain on ebay for 6799, and if I'm able to do the work myself that would be cheaper than 8Kish for a charged 4.6 with t56 swap.. Any thoughts? THANKS!

That seems like the way to go, other than selling the car and buying a real cobra.. 5k for a supercharger mated to a inferior trans for the amount of power you would end up having. Maybe not inferior but a t56 would make better use of the motor (speed,drivability,mpg..
