Tuning a stock 2v is not going to make you feel all that great about your purchase. You have an auto, so your shifts will firm up a little and shift points will be adjusted, so thats nice I guess. The J-mod is cheaper and does a better job I think though.

You will pick up(being generous) MAYBE 10hp. Also, a canned tune(over the internet tune) will never be as good as a dyno tune. The most gain from the tune comes from not only advancing the timing, but adjusting the A/F ratio, which canned tunes wont touch.

I would suggest slapping some 410s on her get the tuner adjust your shift points. You'll most def feel a difference in your ride then. A tuner alone, not so much.

I bought a BAMA SF3/X3 recently for my (bone stock) '04 GT auto convertible, and for me it made quite a difference. Throttle response is vastly improved, like night and day, and increased power in the middle and upper rpm ranges. It also smoothed out the idle. Overall it just really woke up my Mustang and it feels much more nimble and powerful than it did before. From the experiences I've read it seems like the improvement mostly depends on where you're starting from. For my car it made a big difference. Not as earth-shattering as the sales copy and some of the reviews promise (in my case, no tire-spinning or throwing me back in my seat), but it definitely renewed the car's spirits and made it really come alive.

I can't afford both a tuner and gears at the same time, so I went with the tuner first, since (a) it was cheaper, and (b) I'll want the tuner anyway when I install the gears and have to recalibrate the speedometer. I can say that I'm really glad I made the purchase. It's probably the best investment I've made in the car so far in terms of bang for the buck.

I kind of asked the same question another Thread "Tune or not to Tune" anyhow I have a 98 4.6l with PI heads & intake P.P. 70mm TB, BBK Shorty Headers, and wanting to put 3:73's in anyone know where the RPM's should be 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd?

with a t45 tranny your going to be at about 2200-2300 somewhere around there if you have stock tire size. Taller or shorter tires will obviously effect it.

Default What about a 5 speed?

Hi all I was wondering the same thing about the tuner? I have basically stock 01 2v with Borla cb, BBK CAI, 3.73 gears. sounds like big difference only with auto? I just bought the car recently as it is and I will tell all who is thinking of gears that WOW! lots of power 1st all the way through 4th. 2200 @65mph in 5th though not exactly highway car. has anyone done any long cruises with 3.73 gears and 5sp. what cruising speed?

2200 isn't bad at all. Since everyone where I lives drives at least 10 over, I am above 2200 all the time (stock gears right now though)
