Default 01 keys

I've had my GT for about 2 weeks and a week of that was sitting because of a stupid pot hole on these MI roads.....no one had my tire in stock. Anyway, I only got 1 key when I bought the car and my local deal want 25 for the key and another 60 to program it. I've looked online but couldn't find any way around going to the dealer. Anyone know of a way?

Check with a locksmith. They also have the ability to cut and program a key.

Honestly $85 isn't a horrible deal. I know that $85 for a key sounds like total horsesh*t but it just is what it is.

My local dealer wanted $40 for the key and another $90 to program it. A few years ago after losing my one and only working key, a mobile locksmith came to my house and cut/programmed 2 keys for $200 (the first key was $160).

Lowe's now does chipped keys; the prices vary depending on vehicle but you can get it done for around $75.

Yes, take that deal for $85, $150 is not uncommon

So I was at Walmart the other day and they have keys for $60 programmed, but the tech had no clue if they would work for my year. Think you guys might be right, and I'll just pay the 85. Later I'll get a 3rd and program that one myself so I don't have to go through the dealer again.
Thanks

if you use the walmart key for the do it yourself program feature, it most likely wont work. this is due to the aftermarket keys, which are setup to clone the code from your existing key. in order to program keys yourself, you will need 2 keys that have unique codes, if one of them is a cloned key the program procedure will not initiate .

...or you could have your PATS disabled, take out the 'theft' light from your dash and never worry about programming keys again.
