I need some help with my wifes 91. The tranny will not engage into 3rd and/or 4th. I have tried going from Overdrive to Drive down to Low and every combanation possible. When you get up to about 50 mph (when you really notice that it needs to shift) and let off of the gas it will go into almost a neutral, then when you accelerate back up the the RPM that the gear is cruising in it will kick back in to 2nd gear.

I have been told to check vacuum lines and such but i am not familiar with the Automatic transmissions.

well I hate to said it maybe on the way out..anywaz try this..did you check the fluid level while the car is running? is it red or brown?..have you ever changed the filter in it? has the tv cable been moved?
