foxes only came with 2 gears from ford 2.73's were standard regarless of transmission. 3.08's were optional. the 1993 cobra r came with 3.23's standard, the regualr 1993 cobra came with 3.08's standard. there were no optional gears higher installed from ford.
dont go with 4.10's. yes they rock but as a daily driver im assuming you would like your speedometer to be correct. if you have a 1990+ speedo gear you will need to change a few things inorder for it to be correct. 3.55's is the limit without changing the internal gear in the tailshaft (23 tooth). if you have a 84-89 model you could go with 4.10's and use a 23 tooth gear for correct reading.

RE: gears
i use 23t for my speedo gear- i have an auto. there is a webpage that will get you close. The slower you go, the more correct the speedo will be. the faster you go, the more your off. I am perfect at around 35-40 mph (using a trap that tells how fast your going), but went to the track and my speedo said 94, track speed said 88. Not too far off, but off nonetheless.
As for gas mileage, ever since I put in 3.73's, I have been getting horrible gas mileage, not sure if your grandma driving it bud, but gears will affect your mileage, especially on the highway. Your pushing a lot more R's than stock, which is the whole point- more R's mean more gas used.

i should have refrased that. in the 8.8 rear ends only 2.73's and 3.08's were available in lx, and gt models. your 83 has a 7.5. 7.5s had all kinds of gears, most 86+ 4 cyl cars had 3.73 factory.

1983 mustang with five speeds could be had with 3.27's. FACT, my car has em.

RE: gears
^^^ hatch, what speedo gear did you use? I was told that I couldnt use a speedo gear to correct anything?
But i would still get the 3.73 one for you cause it wiull still get you alot closer than the original and closer than the 4.10 speedo would unless you get shorter tires than stock...
