Default Cobra Wheels on an 88

Alright, I just bought an 88 from a guy, and he had the 17x10 Cobra wheels. However, the front wheels will not fit (they just barely rub against the wheel wells). Just some info, they are also 17x10 (big front wheels =o ) and are currently sitting my garage along with the stock wheels. If anyone has done this, some advice would be appreciated, i know a guy who works at a body shop and i am probably gonna go talk to him about shaving down the wheel wells unless someone has a better idea. Thanks.

? are you sure they are 10's, or are you just going by what he told you? a 10 inch wheel will not work on the front. a 10 will work on the back if you have the correct back space. 6.5 bs with a spacer is what is needed to use a 10 on the rear. i assume you are speaking of the cobra R wheels? they do make an aftermarket 10, but most are the 9s. is your car lowered? did he have them on the car? what size tire is mounted on them?

So will the 17 X 9 Cobra R's work on an 88 without a rub? I'm about to put some of my car..

The front will rub, but a little massaging should take care of that.

WOW, I am having the same problem. I bought cobras for my 88 and I didn't realize until now that I should have gotten 17x8 in. rims for the front because they stick out further then the rear rims do. I went and got 1/4 in. spacers for the rear but I don't think that's going to cut it. Also, can a machine shop really shave down rims?

How much farther do they stick out?? Does it make the ride rougher??
