Default Instrument panel lights out

Hey everyone i am new at this site and just got a 88 mustang gt. Love it (alot better than my 85 z28 350 tpi). Well anyways i was out the other day and went to turn on my lights for the instruments and they didnt come on. Prior to this they have worked fine, also i checked the fuse and it is good. Any ideas on how to fix this or what the problem is. thnx

Ok, that's a tricky one because you would need to pull the dash in that area. --- but before you do.....read this...

on a couple of my cars after they got old they had the same problem, for the life of me I couldn't find the darn problem, the problem was the wheel (to dim/brighten the dash). When you turn on your lights at night your dash dimmer wheel should already be set to on (or turned all the way left). Sit in your car (at night) turn on your headlights and then slowly turn the dash dimmer wheel, you will get to a point where you will feel it hit a firm spot, keep turning it VERY slowly at that point....you should start seeing your panel lights either come on or flicker......if they come on then just leave it alone, if it flickers then you are going to have to either try to find a spot where they don't flicker and are on and you live with it or you pull the dash and clean the contact and see if that will fix it (that will usually do it).

Let me know how that works out........I'm on my third Mustang and it seems to be one of the common traits, that and the flippin ash tray door/spring -- (i'm amazed that the one I have now still is the original and STILL works...hahahaha)
