Default 95 GT auto trans fluid

what kind of trans fluid would i need and how much?? the ppl at autozone could not tell me the type i would need.. one of my buddies told me that it would prob me something like mercon but he said their are serveral diff kinds of mercon.. any help would be greatly appreciated.. thanks in advance..

I'd use Mercon V.It's a synthetic type design to eliminate the convertor clutch chatter issue common to the early 4R70Ws and AODEs. It's called out in one of the TSBs, but Ford says it will damage the seals in pre 96 trannys. Others have used it with no issues. $3.95 a quart X 12.
If you are afraid to use it, use Merc III
