well if you are going to put a larger cam than with the rebuild new pistons will be needed even if you don't bore out the block..due to no valve reliefs

what would be the cheapest and best way to do this, im restoring an 85 pony and im deciding whether or not to fully rebuild my original 302 (pistons, rings, gaskets, oil pump, cam, springs, rockers, intake, carb) or buy a long block off of ebay (302 or 351?) what do u guys think? i believe some long blocks on ebay are goin for 1500-2000........
also how much is it usually to rebuild a t5 with heavy duty gears?

RE: rebuild or crate?
i dont think this is the original engine however, and yes all the blocks are thesame if it was the original because all 85-95 were hydrolic rolling cams engines, not flat tappet. but i think this is a diggerent engine because it does not have a 4 barrel and the fan was made from steal not plastic like cam stock on the 85's. the weird part is it does have the tubular headers that came on the 85's and up so most likely this is a peiced together engine, ill have to run the serial # of the block when i pull it later this month
