ya i know it controls the idle air but what does it do? Restrict the air passing through the throttle body ??????

since you dont know whaty it does, you clearly dont know if it is the problem. The easiest way to test your IAC is to unplug it. if the erratic idle continues, its clearly NOT the problem

Oh boy... this should be entertaining.

But before I sit back to enjoy the entertainment, I'll offer a little basic advice for rough idles. Look for a vacuum leak, that will cause a rough idle. If the vacuum is fine, then check your MAF to see if it's dirty. Just hit it with a little MAF sensor cleaner. You can also clean the IAC with carb cleaner.

Those are just some basic things to check and they're all relatively quick and easy to do.
