Fact? The SN95 4.6's are slow as *****.
I love the way modular engines sound. The 5.0 does have a distinctive sound that everyone knows and loves though, even chevy guys.

That 4.6L stock power vs 5L stock power is based on these following vehicles.
4.6L Tbird is faster than a 5L Tbird or Cougar.
302 powered Ford trucks are total dogs, 4.6L F150's are not quite as slow.
Also the bottom of the barrel 4.6L would be a early 90's Crown Vic and they are still faster than the 180hp 5L Crown Vics from mid 80's to 1991.

Both of them are slowwhen stock. NPI 4.6's just suck bigger *****. PI 4.6's are pretty nice, but still not that fast, I like them especially because the way they respond to FI. But if I had to pick with something to start off with I would pick a 5.0 foxbody, everything (including the price of the car) is WAY cheaper than anything for the PI or NPI 4.6.

like most have said if you have plenty of money at ur expence...go with the 4.6...i like the 04's myself. if you dont have tons of dough go with a 5.0.
5.0L: the cars are cheaper b/c they are older, aftermarket parts are cheaper and more abundant, responds better to bolt on's, you can do most of the work urself in your yard, stock block is good for 500hp
4.6L: cars are newer and cost a little more, aftermarket parts that do you most good is nitrous &/or Supercharger, harder to work on, a tune is a MUST, not sure what hp they can hold.

RE: Your opinion, 5.0 or 4.6?
manufacturer's ratings aside, there is no comparison between 5.0 and 96-98 npi 4.6's. my 89 gt with full exhaust and 2.73 gears smoked my brother in law's 98 gt many times, and he is not a terrible driver. also, both cars are 5 speeds and the 89 had over 230 thousand on the odometer, never rebuilt.

Just get one and modify it, mustangs arent bad platforms at all some are better then others the 5.0 is cheap performance the 4.6 has a real agressive tone and needs pricier mods to make it a true performer but there all good in my book...
