Its called traction lock. Your's is worn out. buy a rebuild kit from 50resto. there pretty cheap and easy to install. it will fix it no doubt.

my buddy told me not to get 4.10s and to get 3.73s because of my automatic tranny. He didnt say why, he just said "ride in my 77trans am and you will know why". He also said to get a possi carrier since only 1 wheel is spinning and linked me to this.

Anywho, is this a major part of my car i should have?

For automatics the norm seems to be 4.10's, and for 5speeds it seems to be 3.73's. I however run 3.55's in my 5speed, so take can take that with a grain of salt.

As for that ebay item, that's the same thing you already have. They sell trak-lok rebuild kits that are cheap, but the problem is, they wear out, and fast. My rear-end/tranny guy dispises those trak-loks. I would suggest getting a locker, or true-trac type carrier from detroit/eaton. I have a true-trac in mine and I love it, however I sometimes wish I had gone with a locker instead even though I daily drive my car. Check out www.summitracing.comfor parts, they are competitive and not to mention parts are usually shipped to your house in 3 days or less.

Yea basically, butthat is for a 9inch though. Unless you have a 9inch rear end it won't work. Yours should be 8.8inch stock, in which case you would need the 8.8inch rebuild kit.

As for the dyno thing, I am going to be picking it up today at around 7PM (PST), when I get back I'll post on my original post and let everyone know. I'm curious to see what the results will be.
