Default running temps

I've posted this in another forum, but I thought maybe you 5.0 guysmay have more info. I've got a 95 GT with aluminum heads. Even before installing the heads the mechanical gauge reached 220* before the cooling fan came on. It's never overheated, I just don't want to warp any heads. Since these are the factory settings, will I be safe continuing to run at these temps. I'll run right around 200* until at idle then climbs to the 220 mark where the fan will kick on....Safe or not?

that's just it. I don't think there is a problem, I just want to be sure. I mean the fan doesn't come on until that 220 mark. Then cools back to around 200-210.

I thought of that, but when using a test light, the fan doesn't recieve power until that 220 mark. What temp does your car run at?

That's a perfect ON temperature. The OFF temperature must be above thermostat temperature. Somewhere around 200-210.

So if you were sitting idling. No airflow through the grille.
The engine will get hot to the point where the thermostat is wide open. The temp will creep up to 220. Fan comes on. Temp drops to 200, fans stop running.

A condition you don't want is the fan is trying to cool a radiator that's not even up to temp yet.

You don't want the fan running all the time.
