I'll take a cable over a hydraulic. Hydraulic are a pain in the *** to change and work on. Long live cable.

I'll also take a cable any day over hydraulic. I bet your stiffness problem is related to your cable and clutch. Aftermarket cables...at least the ones I tried...are horribly stiff as compared to the oem cables (which are the best in my opinion). I'd try changing the cable, if it's not a Ford cable already.
