1995 Mustang GT RAM HDX / TOB noise problem after install?
Hi guys,
I was wondering if I can run something by you. My clutch bearing retainer and TOB were shot on my 1995 Mustang GT. So I had a reputable Mustang shop install a Late Model Resto RAM HDX master clutch kit. Including all the goodies - FRPP pilot bearing, TOB, steel bearing retainer, rear main seal, RAM HDX clutch, pressure plate, and steel flywheel. Here is my problem. I think my TOB is riding the pressure plate fingers. What I mean, is that it does not squeal, but in neutral, I can hear like a faint rubbing sound coming from the clutch/transmission shifter area inside the car.
The clutch pedal is raised about 2 inches above the break pedal, and is stiff. No vibration coming through the pedal, and no give - it feels very tight when applying any pressure to the pedal. Now, the clutch grabs about an 1"-1.5" off the floor, and if in gear, it starts to disengage about 1.5"-2" when depressing the clutch pedal. The new clutch cable is stock and tight. Stock quadrant. I know that if I tighten it more at the fork, it would lower the pedal, but would put more pressure on the TOB and force it even more toward the pressure plate. If I were to loosen the cable at the fork, I think that would lower the clutch grab even lower to the floor (if I'm correct,) and raise my clutch pedal. Am I getting this right? I mean, I can shift fine, it's not too hard to get into any gear, but I worry about the slight rubbing noise which to me sounds like a TOB rubbing/riding on the pressure plate fingers. What else can it be?
What should I do guys? I hate to run into problems later on. The RAM HDX clutch is definitely stiffer and grabs more than my stock clutch. Maybe I just need to get used to the low, off the floor grabbing? Give it more break in time? I just have about 80-90 miles on it. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks guys..
