going into reverse?

Default going into reverse?

i just picked up my new 88 5.0 last week and it would grind when i put it into reverse, i was talking to my buddy at work who has an 89 and his does the same he said if you put it into any other gear first then into reverse it doesnt grind so i tried it and sure enough it doesnt grind does anyone know why it does that??

On my car I have to put it in 5th then yank back into reverse or it won't go in. I'm not sure why it does it but it seems to be a common problem.

i just let the clutch out a little and it slides right in...just enough to let it go in without grindin....i dont know if you got thst but thats what i do...

Yep mine will do it every single time if i dont put into first then into reverse. Thats kinda good thatim hearing everyone else's stang does it too, thought the synchros might be going in it

revers doesnt have a synchro, so you dont put it in reverse by accident while going forward, you might try double clutching, heres a full tutorial for those of you who are oblivious


in neutral, let the clutch out, all the way, give it a little gas, depress the clutch, put it into gear, may or may not work for reverse, meant for going forward

ya all 5.0's do this.. i remmeber my first notch back lol.. dad alwasy bitchd at me for not putting it into 5th then reverse..

thankk godd!! i thought my car was messed up, it wasnt as bad when i just got it but its getting worse, sometimes it wont go into first also,

i will be changing my shifter i wonder if that would help?

My 95 does that. Sometimes it slides in just fine and sometimes I have to let off the clutch just a little bit. Every sn95 stang I've owned has done that. This one makes the 3rd.
