Default battery light comes on at 4000+ rpm... why?

the other day my dad took my car for a spin and said he heard some kind of whining noise from the engine at 4000+ rpms. my tranny whines big time... but i've never heard anything from the engine. could there be something that could cause it to whine? no it's not a blower. lol

anyways... i decided to see if i could hear what he was talking about so i got on it at was kinda watching the tach when at a little over 4000 the battery light came on and the volt meter went haywire. so i let off... everything went back to normal. all this happened in about1.5 seconds.. so i don't exactly know which way the volt meter needle went. i'm pretty sure it went up.
any ideas why the battery light came on? i tried doing it again and it ran fine... and the time after that it did it again, so i don't know when it decides to caues the battery light to come on and when not. that is the first time i've seen it do that though.
does any of this make a little sense? lol

Failing alternator? It's crank driven so if its having problems then spinning it faster could make it worse. That could also explain the whining sound. Get it tested for free at Auto Zone or some similar place.

I just got a quote for my shock tower being bent, the quote was $350 to have a frame shop pull it out to original specs.

yikes. the ford place wanted 1600 just for the fender and paint!! no quote for the shock tower. they're gonna get it on a frame maching and check... i don't care how much it is though. it's not my money[sm=happybounce.gif] i just hope i get it back soon and the alignment can be fixed properly cause i also just got new tires and those don't need to be ruined cause the alignment shop can't align the right side anymore. lol

Ouch, I can get my whole car painted professionally for 1200, but I know the guy also, and that is with the best products out there.
