Junkyard/DIY Performance

RE: Junkyard/DIY Performance
So could like someone make it a final STICKY and list it really easy like this:
To get list:
Intakes:
yada yada yada
Brake parts/upgrade:
yada yada yada
Radiator Upgrade:
yada yada yada
Axles:
yada yada yada
Etc, etc, etc
This way one could print that puppy out and take it with them when they go.
I sure as schitt won't remember half this stuff and when I go to the Wreckers, it's not like the crap is organized. I come up on vans then trucks then cars then cars again then trucks....the stuff is everywhere.
That way you could not miss things when you come up on an Explorer or a MK7 or whatever...
Just a thought,
Ivan

RE: Junkyard/DIY Performance
It used to be a sticky a long time ago, but people started posting regular posts rather than advice. Good to see my long dead thread again though

Fuel pressure gauge
You can get a 0-100 pressure gauge from lowes for $7 then drill & tap a hole in your fuel rail rather than paying $40

Back in the mid to late 80's the early Fox bodies came with a small spare tire that was mounted on a narrow, standard dia. aluminum wheel that weighed almost nothing. These were the hot ticket for someone that was building a drag car or a straight line "street fighter". Just throw a set of "skinnies" on them and bolt them on. They saved a good bit of weight right where it's needed most, up front. Back then most people were just throwing them away. They were the poor mans Centerlines at that time. IIRC a set of them would save you somewhere in the neighborhood of about 75 lbs.
In reference to some of the other previous posts here....
The 351's were put into almost everything back in the 70's and 80's, but know what you're looking at. There were 3 different 351's, Windsor, Cleveland, and M (Modified).
The Modified was typically in trucks, broncs, etc. Not much available in performance parts....leave it where you find it.
The Cleveland has more perf. parts available than the Modified but not as much as the Windsor. The Cleveland can be made to perform great but it's not a good choice for the street due to the giant valves the Cleveland heads have (way oversized for a 351). If you do find one for a good price it would probably be a good idea to haul it home anyway, they are easy to sell to people restoring the older muscle cars and if you didn't pay too much you can probably make a little cash to help fund your project.
The Windsor is the one you want, it is the same family as the 5.0/302. It does have a taller deck height which makes the engine wider and taller, so it is a little tighter fit in the Foxes but it will bolt in. There are really affordable stroker kits available to take it up to 419 cid. ( some are less than $700). That would make a nice little surprise for someone. Like the old saying goes...."there's no replacement for displacement"t. Just think.....to most it looks like a 302, it'll easily hide what would be a radical idle in the 302, make for a nice sleeper. With an extra 117 cid., it'll do anything and everything the smaller motor will and it'll do it quietly without drawing attention to itself. Oh yea, it'll be more durable as well due to not having to rev or strain the engine as much while still making more power. I've done this swap and I'll never go back.
