Default transmission help

i recently bought a '90 lx hatch from a friend, and unfortunately it's not in the best condition -- gas (aka money, amirite), oil, and transmission fluid leaks, as well as an iffy fuel pump [which is currently hooked up to a switch so the car can start once switched on].

i am keeping tabs on said leaks, and prepared with oil, transmission, brake, and power steering fluids along with fix-a-flat and bottles of water [for the radiator] to keep in the car. however, i cannot find where to put the transmission fluid! everything else is right there but for some reason i just can't find that, and i do not have the manual.

am i the only one with this problem, or is it common? i feel so dumb for asking. i really don't know anything about cars. ;>

also, i took pictures of the engine and labeled them if that helps at all.

if it's a stick shift car then the trans fluid fill is on the side of the tranny case on the right hand side it has a square port for a rachet to fit in it.

i only paid $100-something, and that was actually so that my friend could buy a new fuel pump for it. i'm planning on babying the hell out of it as in-town car only. it can get me from point a to b, that's for sure. hopefully it'll last for a year at most.

like i said, i really don't know anything about cars. i was told it was a 5.0 but... yeah, i don't know. haha. i'm just one of those typical ignorant, helpless girls when it comes to this stuff.

Well it is a 2.3 not a 5.0 and the "mystery stick" as you labled it in your picture is the one for the transmission fluid level. You want to check it with the car warmed up and running. It is also where you add the fluid, get your self a good funnel. Carefull you don't over fill it, to be safe if it shows about half full it should only take half a quart.

i had already checked the stick, and it didn't really seem like there was much on it. but that's seriously where you put transmission fluid? i wouldn't have ever guessed, it's so tiny!

thank you a lot, though -- i really appreciate it. my car was starting to act funny and i believe it was due to lack of transmission fluid [since everything else was fine], so hopefully this'll do the trick.

i will possibly give an update tomorrow.

as of today: i put in the transmission where raven_ghostwolf suggested, and all is well now. runs more smoothly, and doesn't do the "jackrabbit" thing (where the car lunges forward and burns my tires) anymore.

so, thanks again.
