i wouldnt see the problem with it.. and if everyoneon here does say that its "too much load" for the ciruit.. then why arent they suggesting puting a relay in the picture?? that would take the load off of the light switch circuit. i think it should handle it no problem. they are freakin backlights for guages. i mean cmon

relay+dimmer switch doesnt sound like a bad idea.

i made it easy and tapped into the wire behind the heater controls for my gauge lights

use the light switch to power a relay that has your gauge lights powered directly from a better source.... Use a normally open switch power applied closes the circuit...

Cake. No worries about overloading your lights... relay is minor draw on power..
