Default Do I need a Boost controller?

Hows everybody doing? Ok I am getting my car Dyno tuned and wanted to know the benefits of keeping my Boost controller ( it is the MSD Boost Timing Retard Unit). My thoughts are once its setthats it right (set it and forget it). Its a street car with the occassional 1/4 mile pass. My other concern is my daughter playing with the controller ****, that can really screw things up right? Its mounted just under the dash. Any input to the advantages and disadvantages would be greatly appreciated it.

with a tune BTM,FMU's are not needed unless your going to try and run more boost or race gas.if u get a tune on 93 octane run 93 octane.so if your going to get a tune and leave it alone.don't really need the BTM.

I disagree to a point.I run one. You never know the quality of the fuel available to you. My car will ping w/ my race tune on 93 octane depending on heat and humidity. I mix in some 116 at the track and have no worries. I have a multi tune chip. If for some reason I can't get the race gas, I can change my tune, change the setting on my BTM and not have to worry about detination. If it were me, I would keep it. However, if your car is tuned for 93, and it runs well w/o any issue, then it's really a choice at this point. Also, depending on where you live has a lot to do w/ it also. I live in a hot and humid area in the summer, so I will be keeping my current set up.

Hey Pro50SC, I live in Pasadena MD so I know what you're talking about. When I get the tune next week I am having them remove the FMU. I'm still up in the air about the Boost Controller. Should I upgrade the Fuel rails while I'm popping in the new Injectors for future Fuel upgrade? I can't wait to see what the HP is, should be 450 to 500 atleast I hope.

if you're hoping for 450-500 the stock rails will be at their limits. so its not a bad idea to throw in a good set of aftermarket rails

Nice. Any other forums you belong to? Any local clubs you hang with? Who is going to tune your car? Me personally, I think it's good insurance. If I start to get a lil ping at the track, couple clicks of the switch and I keep racing. After all I have spent, what's another 150 bucks at this point. The fuel rails, yeah a good idea.

Do you know those guys. I have heard mixed reviews. I'll send ya some links (pm) w/ some clubs. A new one just started up and there are a few guys from your area. Already had a couple meets, really nice ppl. The next one is in Feb. You should try and make it. Gonna be in Gaithersburg this time. Since the group is from so many areas, we're picking spots around the metro area to make it easy for everyone to attend.
