RE: Decided Not To Use 205's On a 306
I'm working on a new combo with a z cam to be a little more streetable anybody have any dyno #rwhp. New combo is based on RBlock 3.25 steel crank hbeam rods with arp2000 bolts Bore is 4.100 Diamond pistons .043 .043 3mm rings, Heads afr 205 ported with titanium intake valves. I'll might use a rpm air gap boss 302 intake the port is close, also I'll use a fogger kit at least 250 shot. A freind of mine had a zcam in 306 with afr 185 and an rpm air gap the bottom end was stock, 650 carb I built and tuned on dynojet it layed down 347 RWHP it ran well.

a stock block seeing 8 grand? ive witnessed a split block at 6500rpms with a 150 shot! and the only thing we could save was the intake and carb. the sob split right down the mains, broke the crank in 3 pieces, spit 2 rod ends out 3 others were bent, camshaft was so badly nicked it couldnt be saved, of course there was severe valve and head damage. granted he ran it for 2 years before it let go. anybody who says a stock block is ok to 8 grand is nuts!

by no means am i calling anybody a liar. i just dont want to see someone bolt on several thousand dollars worth of race hardware on a stock block and expect it to live to 8 grand. there asking for failure. and when it fails at that rpm everything is junk! there is very little that you can do to make the stock block stronger, like a main girdle and lifter valley supports and arp hardware thats about it. even with these mods i feel the stock block is good for about 500hp. after that its just a matter of time. just my 2 cents.

Would you like to see the dyno print don't have it now but I can get it from work? We used stock blocks all the time In dirt track cars sometimes they hold and sometimes they explode! That said I built the motor on a budget and it lived until I got my new Shortblock together I did alot of R&D with it. One thing about any motor that makes decent power is there are no guaranties with anything! One local shop in the area blew up a motor after tuned on the dyno on the test drive.

With all that said if I built a motor to those specs for a customer I wouldn't use a stock block! But like I said I was just seeing what I could get away with if it broke the next time I started it didn't owe me anything! after what I put threw the throttle even stuck wide open once! I cringed for weeks after that!
