i just bought a brand new distributor and now the car will not turn on!
the starter turns the motor but it just wont actually start running.
it will just backfire every once in awhile.
new wires and plugs aswell but those worked with old dizzy.
old one was steel gear and so is new one. (if that matters...???)

but is the rotor button inside the dizzy?

how could i check that???
the distributor rotor button in the dizzy i think was facing a different way but dosent it spin anyway?

Means ur timing is wrong. Best bet is to get a manual and follow the sets in it. If you checked where it was at when you pulled out the old one you could of gotten away with putting it in the same way the old one was facing. You will have to take the dist out and readjust which way the rotor is facing to the correct direction. You will have to bring the motor to tdc on the first cylinder, and make sure the rotor is facing he #1 wire.

using the circle diagram of the plugs you can find it....just put the dizzy cap on with the cables, mark on the dizzy where the #1 cable is sitting, take the cap off, and try to line up as best as you can the rotor with that line. After it turns on, check your timing
