Default what oil for motor break in...

I'm going to have my motor back together and running within the next few days and was just wonderin what type of oil you would recommend for the first break in period. I was told to buy Rotella T 15W40 from someone and read that this was a good choice.

Do you think this is a good choice, or would you go with something else? Thanks in advance.

is it a full rebuild? did you do the work?

My engine builder told me to break my motor in on 5w20 dino oil and after the breaking to run a 0w20 or 5w20 synthetic

If I remember right, the new rotella has very little in common with the old stuff, they pulled most of the zinc out of it so it isn't really good for break in. If your motor is a roller motor with a roller valve train, you have little worries about break in aside from seating the rings properly. A good dino oil and priming the pump the right way is a good start. As far as break in period there are dozens of different opinions as to what is best. What I did was prime, fire it up with good dino oil(mine is a roller) check timing/fuel pressure all the usual first fire stuff. Let it idle 20 minutes and shut it down, drained oil and changed filter. Filled it with more good dino oil and took it for a drive, around 10-15 minutes letting the transmission pull the car slower when stopping often. Drained oil/changed filter and then you drive it as you normally drive the car and do another oil change at 500 miles.
If you have anon-roller cam all that is out the window, then you would consider using Joe Gibbs break in oil or the oil of your choice/additive of your choice, do the 20 minute start-up but do not drive the car hard until you have 500 miles on it. Oil change at 100 miles could not hurt either.

Yeah, good mineral oil. If it's a flat tappet cam setup, then make sure you use something with a high zinc content.
