pretty much any half decent autoparts store would have a kit like that right?

when i replaced my thermostat, i payed someone to do it, becase i messed up.

well it leaks a slow drop here and there now, and i took it back, they said "these 5.0's always do that, it would take us another half day to get to it, and it would prob do it all over again"[>:]

its just to much of a hastle to deal with it, and it only leaks a tiny tiny bit, but the smell does **** me off

That's a cop-out answer. You paid them to do proper work on your car. 5.0s do NOT always do that. I've owned three of em & never had one leak at the thermostat housing. Don't accept that answer and attitude. Make 'em fix it or give you a refund for the labor anyway.

this was last week, and i only had a couple hrs before work, so i just said **** it.

Actually, 5.0's do leak there a lot, same with the 351's. Anything with that thermostat housing, they crack quite often, though that's not usually the reason, just a common problem with them. Regardless, if you get the gasket changed, and they do it properly, it still shouldn't leak. Whenever I do them, i always put a flat-edge on the housing as they do have a tendancy to warp.

The dye and UV light kit is a waste of money, you might as well just get a shop to check it for you if you're going to buy that. VERY good kit though. The shop I work at has the kit, I put dye in every fluid in all my cars, and check them on a regular basis. But not practical for an individual to own. What I would do if I were you is just put a piece of cardboard under the car after you park it, and before you go to drive it again, look at the cardboard to see if has any spots on it, then you know where abouts to look for your leak.

what is it with people on here??? you don't need a uv kit to detect coolant leaks on a car..never!!! just a pressure tester and a trained eye!!!! I have always found every external leak with such... if you can't see green then go get your eyes checked
