Default two questions

I should have taken a picture, but maybe i can describe it well enough...

there is a small box on the firewall, almost dead center, has a harness that plugged into it, what is that?

And on the passenger side, there is that vacuum distribution, and then a little something below that? is that for EGR and EVAP and whatnot?

i know that, but I doubt its been hooked up the entire time, anyway they could haev flashed the computuer to ignore MAP input? This is actually wierd to me, MAP input is rather important, and its ran fine....hmmm...

anyway as far as the second question. on the strut tower, on the fender well is the apparatus below the vacuum distribution for smog and air injection and what not? Can i get rid of that whole thing?
