hook up a shift light.

hook up a shift light.
i am going to install a Summit stand alone shift light. one wire is for the neg. side of the coil. can i find a location to plug/splice into under the dash? where can i find awiring diagram/skematic? the wires supplied with the light are too short ot go into the engine compartment, so this seems likely.
thanks in advance.

RE: hook up a shift light.
its going to be down by ur EEC, should be a dark green wire with a yellow stripe going into the plug that plugs into the eec. Make sure you trace this wire and it leads to your coil, becuase im sure theres a few green wires with differnt stripes on them.

RE: hook up a shift light.
thanks to both.
i can do ok with suspensions/brakes/bolt-ons & stuff, but electrical is black magic.
i assume i should disconnect the neg. battery cable. seems like all directions start there. even to change a tire (almost).
i have an "add-a-circut" fuse. i think i can find a location in the fuse block to take care of the ignition wire. got a better place???? the ground should workif iattach toany clean metal area under the dash. right???????
that leaves the EEC. is it on the passenger side kick panel inside the car? (90 LX)
what should i watch for (besides the green wire with a yellow stripe)? any tricks to removing the EEC? does it need to be opened, or can i attach the shift light wire at the plug (if that's what you call it)?

RE: hook up a shift light.
you can plug both wires right into the coil harness
if you stuff it in there you don't even need to splice anything......make the stripped end about 1 1/2" long, and ball it up....stuff it into the end of the harness where the wires go in w/ a screwdriver...then tape it all up so it doesn't come out, dielectric grease is a plus too
going to the computer itself will do nothing for you, the signal comes from the coil, extend the wires and hook right up to it
if however..you have a msd box and the tfi harness...you need to go to the new harness...or it will pick it up wrong
