Default umm...i hope yall can help...

ok guys ill prob be trading my f150 for an 80s tbird...i think its 84 or 86 not sure....its my gf's dad's car... its ugly as sin because its oxidized and all that...but i love fox mustangs and i see way too many of them, saw a tbird sc in MMFF and its had me hooked...this car isnt a supercoupe its a v6...prob just a standard tbird.... im assuming its an auto also....what all would be entailed in swapping in a t5 and either a 302/347 or 351/408?

If it's that old, not much. The normal stuff. You need a solid donor. Might have to fabricate a pedal hanger assembly if ur swapping 5 spd Mustang into an auto T-bird. That would be a mean swap though. But they did make 302 T-birds and they aren't too expensive. I wouldn't go through the trouble, unless you really want a stick that bad. In the 90's they went to the 4.6's in the T-birds before the Mustangs. The 3.8's are where it's at (for T-birds at least) . I got a 90' super coupe running perfect for sale, 10 PSI honda eater.... If ur interested that is. I also know a guy who has 20 or 25 of them at a boneyard in NY state. Super Coupes Kick @SS

Don't know about the tranny, but found this article very helpful in getting a 5.0 into my '77 Celica.

Good luck.

The fox T-birds were TurboCoupes, not SuperCoupes. They has a Turbocharged 2.3L 4 banger thas got up around 220hp in 88.
Find a Turbocoupe 84-88 with a s-speed for the pedals and correct console. The T-5 in the T-coupe has a smaller pilot bearing and a really low 1st gear, not good for the 5.0. Most everything else is the same as a Foxbody Mustang. And yeah, a carb would be much easier unless you have a donor car for the wiring harness for SEFI.

well.... its just a base model tbird i think (v6), its the fox body style, pretty sure 84 or 86....im getting it in trade for my truck most likely which means im getting a good deal....dont have money to buy a nice one....its oxidized to hell and its hideous looking....50k original miles and it will be a fun project....if i keep the auto, would a carb'd 302/347 drop right in?

i say leave the oxidation, drop in a 351, possibly boosted, put on some street slicks, and make one hell of a sleeper!! but thats just one of my crazy ideas. sorry.
