how tall of a valve cover can i use?

how tall of a valve cover can i use?
my dad has some ford racing valve covers in his shop and i was wonderin if theyd work on an efi. i have a cobra intake. i was thinkin maybe if i used a 1 inch spacer? they are 3 3/4 inches tall.
