if they are the stamped steel factory pedastal mount rockers just tighten them down to just that....the cam is hydraulic roller to hydraulic pressure compensates for lash.....the only time it matters to set preload is when switching to a roller rocker set up..if all your stuff is stock you'll be fine

It should be a steel channel that looks like a long metal "u" on the bottom under the pedestals to keep them from rotating. Is that what you're talkinga bout?

They need to be tightened down on the base circle of the camshaft. You cannot just pop the valve cover off and start torqueing.

When the exhaust lifter is just starting to move up, the intake lifter is on the base circle, so then torque the intake side.

When the intake lifter is almost closed (that you just adjusted), the exhaust lifter is on the base circle, so then torque the exhaust side.

I "bump" my engine with a ratchet (spark plugs out), and slowly spend the engine over clockwise.

If you have the intake off, it is super easy. You can see the lifter rise and fall. It is when it quits falling, and rides on the base circle, in which you torque it down.

If you have intake still on, you can just use the pushrods to simulate watching the lifters. You have to pay attention. Removing the intake would be much better, IF you have not did it before.

The base circle on the camshaft is the point of no lift.
