Default Another trans question!

I know you guys love these question, especially from me.

So heres an update. Come to find out the trans that was in the car was a 4cyl trans...The one I am trying to put in(From a 94) has recently got the correct input shaft for a 93GT 5.0 but I still can't get this thing in. It goes in all but about the last 1/4 to 1/2 inch. I was looking up in there and it almost looks like the clutch disc has slipped down a little, is this possible? The only thing that was done was the trans was taken out, the bell housing was left on. Could the disc of slipped down or is it bolted in?

Default RE: Another trans question!

i know when using the 4cyl tranny's they have a smaller input shaft,so if you use them on a v-8 engine, you have to install the correct pilot bearing or bushing, for that size input shaft, so the v8 input shaft is to big for the 4cyl pilot bearing, so you will have to remove the pilot bearing and install the rightone for a v-8,

Default RE: Another trans question!

I can't tell if they switched the pilot bearing or not, but I have tried just putting the input shafts in there to see if I could get either of them all the way into the bearing and I can't thats why I was asking if the clutch disc could of moved somehow cause it almost looks like it dropped down a little.

I think I am going to have to take the bellhousing and clutch off to check the pilot bearing
though....

I think it is just the nub on the end of the shaft that is smaller in the 4cyl. I could be wrong though...

thats about how much will be there if your not, no the disk won't slip...it's engaged the whole time w/ a lot of force

Yes, I tried with the clutch in/out/half way pushed in...I am going to go ahead and take the clutch out to check the pilot bearing. Now knowing that it had a 4cyl trans in it, I guess they could of swapped that out also???
