Bit of smoke....on start up??
so ive noticed the past few days my 86 has been letting out a cloud of smoke on start up, being that i drive it, its hard to see if its white or blue, i was thinking it could just be unburnt fuel in the exhaust burning off??? its not burning oil or overheating so im kinda at a loss any ideas?

RE: Bit of smoke....on start up??
Try to get someone to start the car and try to smell the smoke you know whati mean dont take a big wiff.I am sure you know the difference between oil smell and fuel smell. If its oil smell it could be a couple of thing and same for fuel smell. Come back and post and tell us what it smells like and go from there. HOPE THIS WILL HELP A LITTLE

How to really tell if its valves seals just let the car idle for about 5mins and romp on the gas pedal. white/blue smoke should come out...

....that's not the best way to confirm such..the proper way would be let the car sit not idling/shut car off for 5 min then go back and start it and if it blows a puff of blue = valve seals

then don't postinadequate methods!!!let me explain to you why your methood can contain flaws...for 1 you are not isolating a component, lack of ring seal can figure into the equation with your way..so my comment or the interpretation of youon it is not just because I say so.......let gravity do your diagnosis if seals are bad when vehicle is shut off oil will continue to run down past seals and into guides and into chamber bowls to be mixed with A/F hence the blue smoke on start up..so understand the line of reasoning and you will sharpen your diagnostic capabilities and accuracy..so education and being properly trained in this field goes along way??? and what do you do from 9-5??
