Cowl Repair
I remember readings someones thread on here about repairing the cowl and the search isn't working so I wanted to see if anyone remembered it and possibly had the link for it. I havn't had it happen to my 83 but I did notice a patch of rust on the inside of the car so I know I will have to repair that down the road. I am debating on repairing fromt he inside or taking off the cowl to having more access. The rust I seen isn't too bad but who knows what else there is that I didn't see. I know there are plenty of articles on the 60's stangs but I want to see some pics of the fox's.

Is it surface rust or holes? Is there any water getting in?

It is a real pain in the *** to fix and Honestly I think the best way to fix it is to remove the cowl. I have repaired it from the inside but there is no way to get to the other side and stop if from rusting thru again if you do not remove the cowl.
^^thats assuming you are talking about the same problem I had.

Yea it is, in the very corners under the dash. I havn't had any leaks from it yet but my car doesn't go out in the rain much either. Too many other places that leak to leave it out plus my wiper motor is out and I have bald tires lol. I don't have the quarter windows sealed yet.
I don't have pics of it bc I don't feel like breaking my back to look under the dash but it is about a 3" by 3" area in the very corner. I noticed awhile back that some paint was peeling inside the cowl area but I couldn't see any rust. But I knew that there would be somewhere, I just had to look hard enough. My car is from Indiana and sat in fields for a few years so there are rust spots still to be found but mainly in the floor, which I have patched up most but not all. Hell there is still part of a rat nest up in the frame by the gas tank from 6 years ago when I first got the car.
I am supposed to deploy to Iraq again next spring so after I get back from that tour I am stripping everything off and replacing my floor pans and cleaning up everything I can get my hands on....Hopefully getting it media blasted. Then I am gonna learn out to paint on my car. That is why my car looks like it does, not in too big of a hurry to make it pretty just yet.

i would assume these is water getting in if there is rust. But I think the problem the OP is refering to is the common leaky cowl problem.

I got another look at the inside of my cowl earlier and there is some rust there. It is a bigger spot than what I seen inside so I think some of it is surface rust. Looks like I won't have much of a choice on removing my cowl to do a proper repair[:@]. Ohh well, just another piece of a car that I am gonna have to take from a doner. I am gonna have to look into buying a whole car as a doner. Hell I can just buy a roller, take what I need, and scrap the rest to make some money back. They are pretty cheap down here and rust free for the most part.

I thought about that too but I got this car 6 years ago before I got my license. I just recently have had the money and time to get the car up and running in feb. I just can't let this thing go and I probably never will unless it gets completly thrashed. It has some small spots but I just gotta be patient.
