Default Suspension

My mechanic asked me what happens when you punch my car. So I told him the car go's sideways. He said so why do you want to build the engine up when the car cant handle the power its got now. He told me I should do the suspension 1st then attack the engine. So what Im asking what go's into the suspension parts wise? Is there any good kits out there? He also said go up to a five lug bolt from the stock 4 lug that came on the 87 gt. Has anyone done this convertion??? I kno nothing about what it takes to build a car that will stick and go straight when i punch it.So any help would be greaaat. Thanks as always

a good tire goes along way. get some after market control arms thathave adj. uppers have the pinon angle set. some aftermarket drag struts in the front help lots also Strange 10 way adj. struts are about the best on the market and can go from road race firm to super soft drag set up and the price is right they also make rear. removing the front sway bar for straight line driving works great also BUT it make gone around a curve with any speed a bit wild some times so think about that before you take it off.

A good set of springs (there are many out there) and strut/shock combo will go a long way. Along with a set of Upper and Lower control arms. One of the first things you should to is get some subframe connectors. You will notice a huge difference in the way your car handles. That with good tires will help you out a lot. Your car can handle what it has plus alot more but the question is can YOU handle more power with the way your car sits? You don't have to swap to 5 lug but it does open you up to more/newer wheels and bigger brake setups. BUT 4 lug can still be taken a long way!

we run stock springs in our stuff and and stock ball joints also as far as that goes the whole front is stock stuff with over 100K all but the Flaming River manual rack. we have no problems when the tires come back down on the ground but they only come up around 4in or so not that big of a impact. and wewas getting 1.54 60 ft and running 10.99 with it so I think you should be OK for a while. just have it checked out for wear.

you can spend a few hundred on your suspension and you can spend a few thousand; it all depends on how far you want to take it. As for the swapping for five lug, for some reason I am against that. The only reason why anyone should want to go to five lug is for a better wheel choices. If your doing it for any other reason than that your wasting your money.

Im doing it soI can stop my car. faster cars are harder to stop =P Dont ready care for the wheel choices I need to be able to stop with the help of the bigger brakes that go on the 5 lug. And a 4 lug just isnt going to cut it but thanks for your opinion

your mechanicshould be reccommendingto you tires, not a suspension makeover.like uedlose said...put a decent drag radial and wider tire on and lets see what area of the car needs attention first then!!!!!
