Default Early 80's mustang motor swap...

I ahve an early 80's mustang that i'm going to be setting up for a bump'n'run or a demo derby. It has a 302 in it with an auto transmission. Will a 4clyinder ford bolt up to the trans in the car?

thanks

For the derby I need a 4 or 6 clyinder for the class the car can run in..... bumb'n'run any motor.

The bellhousings are different between the 8 and 4 cylinders. I dont know which one the 6 uses- it might be different than both.

No different bell housings. Why would you do that to a mustang?

I agree. go get an old caprice or crown vic to smash up... early 80's mustangs are getting scarce.

dont smash it, restore it, especially if its original...

For a 4 banger derby get a 4 door '88-'94 Cavalier- theyre one of the best cars in derbies.
My friend has done a ton of demo derbies. He did good with a Dodge Dynasty in the mid size class too.
