Have an 88 mustang gt with the t-5 transmission. The car only goes in first gear if it is completely cold. Then if it goes it takes two or three times because the trans jumps out of first when you start coming up off the clutch. The only way to get it into first gear in the first place is to *** up off the clutch very very slow and if it is not completely cold it jumps right back out. Whats my problem?
Thanks
not being able to get it in gear is not wholely a result of worn syncros...because the syncro is part of the gear hub..when the clutch is pushed in input shaft stops spinning and so should gear assembly as soon as the motion is made by the shifter to push shift forks forward which moves slider assembly and pushes the blocker ring onto syncro hub to stop gear from spinning and the teeth on the two mate for a clean engaugement...grinding into gear is a result of a worn sincro hub but more often than not a worn friction surface on the blocker ring........since gear engaugement is a prob...my question to OP is: is the problem consistent and relavant to all 5 forward gears?????..meaning if you try to put it into 2nd does it do the same thing and so forth through 3rd to 5th???if so it either is a clutch cable/ disengaugement prob or pilot bearing may be siezed on input shaft not allowing it to stop spinning...as for popping out of gear.. there either is an internal prob with shift dogretention or worn slider
