Default Holley carburetor issue

I helped my friend install a new power valve in his 650 holley. We scraped all the old gaskets off the surfaces, installed the new valve and put it back together. When we started it up, fuel was spraying from the vent tube. It wasn't pouring out but you could see a light mist of fuel coming out.
What would cause this? I told him it was possible that a piece of the old cork gasket got into one of the tiny carb. holes when we were scraping the gasket off, since we did it with the carb on the car.

We tried to be careful when we did it and used a shop vac to suck up the debris every now and then.
What should we do? Take the bowl off again and hit the holes with an air hose to dislodge and debris that might have got in there?

There is probably dirt stuck in the needle and seat.
Holley carbs have zero tolerance for dirt.
