Default Starter issues, please help!!!

ok im having trouble with the starter solenoid and starter. im 90% sure i wired up the solenoid correct and ive narrowed down a major problem im having with the starter itself. (needles to say i cant move on or try to get the car started untill i fix this issue)

the tab on the back of the starter is grounding out for some reason. i blew a 50amp fuse and realized where the short was coming from. so i thought the starter was faulty so i bought a new one. same thing happens. i confirmed the tab is being grounded out by testing it with a multimeter. i put it in a continuity mode and touched the tab, then i touched a ground point and the multimeter beeped confirming my issue.

any ideas what this is, how it happened and how i can fix it.

Try hitting your starter solenoid on the wheel well with a hammer, some times they stick open or shut. Other then that take everything apart systemicaticly and put it back together using a refference of some sort.

i did put it together following a diagram etc.

but that still wouldnt explain why the starter tab is grounding out when it is mounted in the car. no other wires are connected to it.

I had this issue once with a old ford truck I had 71 F100 explorer. The Ground strap had gone bad so there was no "true" ground on a "floating" ground? in lyamans terms the mechanic that helped me said that if the strap that grounds the block to frame to battery, is a No Go. then motor mounts and tranny etc...become the ground and can cause short. I dont know if this is what is going on with yours....but maybe a starting point?
GL, let us know how she turns out!

ok that sounds like a starting point to look into. the only cable i changed was the ground cable for the battery since i relocated it to the trunk. but i will double check all the grounds and maybe just redo them.

Have you checked the your batteries charge? I know sometimes low charge can muff with random electricle things, have you checked to make sure you wires are fully insulated?

what is the verdict? did this start as a result of the battery relocate?
was that the last thing you did before the SNAFU?

it worked and then i decided to relocate the battery and solenoid to the trunk AND also replace the whole wire harness for the car. new fuse panel, headlight taillight wiring etc. everything else is working, wipers heat etc except this issue.
yea their fully insulated, no cuts or punctures in the wire.
