5.0 sputtering + backfireing....HELP!
Hey everybody - I hope someone can help me. I dropped a 5.0 H.O. speed density and AOD from a '92 Lincoln Mark VII into my '89 Ranger. I modified the Ranger harness to accomodate the extra circuits for the 5.0 (had to add 8 circuits to the harness) and I am using the Lincoln's ECU.
It starts and idles fine, and the CEL isn't on (goes off when the engine fires, just as it is supposed to). The problem is that it stumbles and bogs when the throttle is opened and I can barely get it to rev above 2K. It seems to get a little better once it is warmed up but it still won't even let me drive it out of my driveway! Any ideas? I've tried changing some of the simple sensors and the next step will be to retrace the entire wiring and double check all of my circuits. If I didn't know better, I'd swear it was a TFI or dizzy pick-up but I've swapped out dizzy's so I don't think that is it, unless I happened to have swapped in another bad one!
Any ideas would be helpfull. Thanks to you all and, for what it's worth, I'm a brand new member to this board and I joined just so I could post this question.

Yeah, it has the stock catted H-pipe with O2 sensors. One of the sensors may have gotten damaged but I would think that if it wasn't reading properly it would cause a code. I do have to check the wiring back to the computer as that was one of the circuits I had to add (Ranger only has one sensor). Also, I need to double check that I have them "hooked" to the correct side of the motor (right sensor, right side of motor, left sensor, etc.).

Update - running fine now! After reading several posts on this board, I finally got around to checking the timing and, whaddya know, it was at about 8-10 degrees AFTER tdc! I set it back to 12 BTDC (actually had to restab the dizzy to do it!) and so far it is running great! I still have a couple of bugs to work out before I put it on the road so we'll have to wait and see what else might pop up but for now, I'm thrilled!
