92 LX 5.0 Modding

I just purchased a 92 LX 5.0 with 87k miles. It has a stock motor,bbk shorty headers and an o/r xpipe. Im planning to make this a 12sec streetable car for now. I'm on a 2k budget right now, will receive more later on. I would like some advice on where I can start

As for the heads... Say I swapped the stock heads with the gt40's would I need to replace anything? What cams are best for performance?
