Default New Alternator won't fit

I am trying to replace my alternator on my 89 mustang gt but all the new alternators have the plugs clocked 90* and when you bolt it up one of the plugs hits the tensioner bracket and you can't get the top bolt in. Do i just cut the bracket so i can get the plug to fit? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think I had the similar thing with mine but I didn't have a problem bolting it up. It is just really close. How far off are you?

First I would go back and verify that it is the correct alternator. 4cyl alt look the exact same except the case is swapped 180 deg almost. That could be the problem.

I was in O'Reily's for about and hour while they called everyone they could think of and everything had the part#. I even went to a different parts store to see what they said and it was the same.

Is it a stock replacement? I didn't have that problem with my Powermaster, it's just a 1-wire rig.
